I am Sandile Maphumulo, born into a close-knit and affectionate Zulu family, boasting seven siblings. My birth in the early 1990s aligned with the last days of apartheid, arriving merely two years prior to the transformative transition that brought democracy to South Africa.
My formative years were spent in the embrace of uMzinyathi, a serene village nestled on the outskirts of Inanda, to the northwest of Durban. Here, I embarked on my educational journey, attending KwaGence Primary School and later progressing to Mqhawe High School, rooted in the very fabric of the village that surrounded me.
From a young age, my driving forces were clear: a deep-seated desire to make an influence and leave an impact, an insatiable curiosity that fueled exploration, and an unwavering passion for staying informed about current events. These motivations paved the way for my chosen career path in Media and Communication.
My pursuit of academic excellence led me to UNISA, where I earned a Bachelor's degree in Communication Science in 2013, and subsequently, an Honours degree in Media Studies in 2020. Eager to continue honing my skills and knowledge in the field, I set my sights on even loftier aspirations.
I recently completed my Master’s degree in Media and Communication Science at Technische Universität Ilmenau in Germany. This international academic journey has not only broadened my global perspective but also reinforced my commitment to using media and communication as tools for influence, curiosity, and positive impact.
